Change of Plan

I woke up yesterday morning to the most beautiful wintery mist. Thick and deep across the landscape, post-bonfire night. I really wanted to get out to take some photos but didn’t have time so missed out on this occasion.

When I woke up this morning I was hoping for the same weather, the same mist, hiding the long flat landscape of Leicestershire. After waiting around for half hour, sipping coffee and scrolling through Instagram, the sun eventually started to rise, and I looked out of my window to see no mist, but only grey overcast clouds. Far from ideal conditions to go out and photograph.

I very quickly dismissed the idea and sat back down on the sofa and picked my phone up again. I’ll just have to wait for another day. I opened Instagram again and flicked through my blog page and it reminded me that I’m not a professional photographer. I don’t just go out to take photos. I also enjoy the walks and looking around for things that interest me. So what if the conditions weren’t the best? I would still enjoy a nice walk before starting work for the day.

I grabbed my boots and the point-and-shoot camera I had and headed out of my front door. I walked for about an hour, stopping occasionally to take some photos of anything I thought might be interesting. (The best thing with the point-and-shoot is the screen is rubbish so I never know if the photos are any good until I get home.)

All in I had a good walk, climbed up a hill and took a few ok photos. They’re not exactly groundbreaking pieces of art, but I like them and I enjoyed myself when I went out to take them because I didn’t put all my focus on getting the best shot. It would have been too easy to stay inside in the warm, but I am really glad I went out anyway.
