A Local Map is a series of adventures around my local area. Inspired by Alistair Humphreys book ‘Local’, I have set myself the target of exploring 30 grid squares on my local map in 2024.

What is a grid square?
An Ordnance Survey map is overlayed with 1km² gird squares for distance reference. On my local map there is over 400 of these squares, all within reasonable travel distance.
Why am I doing this?
Like Alistair, I don’t have the time for big grand adventures. Work keeps me busy a lot and often it is difficult to spend full days travelling to see some of the beautiful national parks we have in the UK. So instead I wanted to find beautiful nature on my doorstep. I am guilty of assuming because I live in this area I know everything about it. I might pass through a lot, but how often do I stop, look around and pay attention to what’s really there? Well on this challenge I plan to do just that.
Below you can check out all of my grid square adventures to date….
